Week 2 Part A: Communication Between Business & Consumer

Social Media makes it easier for a business to get noticed by an audience that wouldn't have know existed. For example, event coordinators. Majority of them use plenty of social media platforms to get their business across. Instead of calling and hearing about the company, you can look them up and electronically see how they run things to your satisfaction. It's a digital way of " word of mouth." In addition,  I feel that it is more sustainable to get attention for a business. When a consumer messages an establishment and they reply, it's creating a form of engagement for both parties. Most likely the consumer would explore the company in person.

A few businesses that I researched are two local ones and a big box store. The first was a hair salon. Upon the reviews I read, majority of their clients were satisfied and would recommend them to a family or friend. Hair stylists did amazing jobs and met with the clients needs and wants. Unfortunately prices were a common factor of negative reviews. With inflation rising and the costs of supplies, each hair specialists had to increase their services to meet demands. Another local business was a nail shop. According to yelp it was rated 4.5 stars out of 5. In my book that's great! Affordability, location, and types of service they provide.

The reviews I read on my research are somewhat important to me. Reading negative reviews often stirs me away from certain businesses. However, if I see the business owner replying and trying to rectify the situation then I will go in there myself with low standards and just have an open mind. I generally don't post reviews unless my experience was awful within more than one occasion. During my experience, if I've built a connection with someone and I was satisfied with the service they gave me, I would post a positive review. Same goes for the big box store. A review that caught my attention was the shortage of staff members. Food and beverage were taking too long to make and the service was not the best. I'm assuming someone from marketing reached out to those individuals and offered vouchers for the inconvenience.

If I had my own business and someone left a positive review, I would respond and engage with them and offer them coupon or something free. On the other hand, if it were a negative review I would reach out to them and offer a chance to make it right.

Businesses I wrote positive reviews

Station Salon- My hair lady is leaving and that I was going to miss her. She's very talented and what she does and how therapeutic she was while I set in her chair for 3 hours. She let me vent about literally everything. Marriage, parenting, current events, to even politics. Oh boy!

Rendezvous Nails Salon- The owner and her staff are welcoming and friendly. She asks about my family and work, the generic ice breaker to a conversation. Overall the ladies there are phenomenal at what they do.

Week 1B: Social Media Use Today

Social media use today is a powerful tool to create content and interact with others in the virtual world.  My thoughts on social media is that it's a great way to stay connected with friends and family who aren't close by. It's accessible to communicate without actually putting the effort into seeing them. Everyone has busy lives especially with Covid nowadays. There are some folks who don't wish to ever leave the house but still want to keep tabs on everyone.

Ideally I feel that social media is used for both personal and business. During the " stay at home order" my kids and I did plenty of Tik Tok dance challenges. It was a great way to kill boredom for a few hours! We went on to Facebook to video chat with our family especially my mom. She became the facebook queen after one night of downloading the app on her phone. Addicted much? I'd say so. She recently retired and watches videos on there. My mom was never a fan of social media use until she realized that her only daughter and her kids, who lives 472.55 miles away, was posting updated pics of the boys on her face book. It was a great way to watch them grow since she couldn't be there every single day. I myself enjoy checking in on friends and family from afar.

I currently work in high end retail. Part of my job is to build clientele. I use instagram and whatsapp to stay in touch with my clients for future promotions and new products. Whatsapp has been a great way to communicate with them especially the ones that live international. Cool thing about this app, it helps with language barriers. For example, I have a client who travels from Taiwan to Southern California to purchase high end goods. She speaks some English enough to get by, but whatsapp has made sure there weren't any miscommunication. However I do enjoy all platforms of social media. I can't wait to see how far it goes in the future!

Kristy's CSIT 155- Fall 2022 Class Blog WK 1

I picked this image as a representation of my family. This was taken 2 years ago in Olivenhain. Our photographer was a mom, whose daughter went to the same preschool as my eldest son. That day was an experience. My youngest son Dylan did not nap prior to our photo session and couldn't sit still for the life of him. If you look closely both of my arms are around him because he was contemplating throwing the wooden chips at his brother. I chose this location because I wanted a rustic fall theme. We love the cooler weather and Halloween is our favorite holiday to celebrate. The boys and I like to visit my family in Sacramento and spend time at Apple Hill farm. Quite frankly we are not summer people. Although we do enjoy the beach, pumpkin spice lattes and hot cocoa is our jam.

Tuesday's schedule

Today was my first day back at school in over 20+ years. I couldn't sleep the night before. Tossing and turning, making sure I have everything, clothes are laid out and crisp. Oh, did I mention I have two very active little boys who wake up starving. Making sure my first grader has snacks and his water bottle is filled up to the brim of his thermo flask. Yes, I said thermo and not hydro because those things are expensive. Costco has 2 bottles for the price of 1 hydro flask. My three old is definitely a handful. Anyways we managed to get out of the house in good time. Drop off was easy. I always do " quick goodbyes and they'll be dry eyes" approach. Cruising to school was a breeze. Prior to the first day I did a quick tour to find my one day a week class, the bathrooms, and student services. Business marketing is my only in person class for this semester. Not being in school for a while has given me motivation and the drive to learn more. All these years, I felt like my brain was slowly deteriorating from not articulating important topics. I'm excited to start this new chapter in life and that it's for me and not anyone else.

Week 17-Final Post- Wrapping it up

First and foremost, thank you for teaching this class. I enjoyed diving more into social media and how it applies to businesses. Going into...
